Inclusive

Supporting Families. Strengthening Workplaces.

Helping parents make informed decisions about mental health and work.

Why MyChoice Exists
Parents and guardians of children with mental health needs often face difficult decisions about whether, when, and how to share this information with their employer. Disclosure decisions can affect job security, workplace relationships, and a family’s ability to access needed support.

The purpose of MyChoice Workplace Disclosure is to provide families, organizations, and employers with confidential, evidence-based tools and resources that make these decisions easier to navigate.

This program was developed using the Ottawa Decision Support Framework and informed by nearly two decades of research on work-family balance, caregiving, and disability support. It translates research into practical guidance so families feel supported, organizations are better equipped to help, and employers can create more inclusive workplaces.

Guided by Core Values
  • Confidentiality: Families can explore disclosure decisions privately and securely.
  • Evidence-Based: Every tool is grounded in research and best practices.
  • Family-Centered: We put the needs of parents and guardians first, recognizing the challenges of balancing caregiving and employment.
  • Equity & Inclusion: We aim to reduce stigma around mental health and create supportive environments for diverse families.
  • Collaboration: We believe that families, organizations, and employers all share responsibility for fostering supportive workplaces.
Leadership
MyChoice Workplace Disclosure is led by Dr. Lisa Stewart, Program Director, Parent, and Researcher, a national expert in family support and children’s mental health. Dr. Stewart’s work focuses on the needs of parents and caregivers of children with mental health needs, helping them navigate disclosure in the workplace while advancing supportive policy and organizational practices.
